What format should I use?

WebP gives the best size-to-quality ratio in modern browsers. JPEG is universally supported. PNG keeps transparency but ignores quality settings — use it only when you need alpha. AVIF is the most modern format with the smallest size, but browser support is still growing.

How much can it reduce file size?

Depends on the original. Typical savings are 50–80% for photos when you set quality to 75–85% and limit max width to 1920px. PNG screenshots compress less.

Does quality affect PNG?

No. PNG is lossless, so the quality slider has no effect. Resizing or switching to WebP, JPEG or AVIF is the only way to shrink PNG files.

Can I compress many images at once?

Do the compressed images keep their EXIF metadata?

No. The Canvas API used for compression strips EXIF data — GPS coordinates, camera model and timestamps are removed. That improves privacy, but if you rely on EXIF, keep the originals.
